BMW with records and victories
This year, the BMW Group Classic – together with the BMW and MINI brand clubs – resides with its impressive stand in Hall 6 and presents a total of almost 30 vehicles themed “100 Years of Records and Victories”: In 1919, an aircraft equipped with a BMW aircraft engine (BMW IV) reached an altitude of 9,760 metres, which had never been reached before. This record is regarded as the starting point for many other records and motorsport successes in the over 100-year history of BMW. BMW Group Classic demonstrates some of these top performances with fascinating exhibits – such as the Le Mans winning car from 1999, a BMW V12 LMR. Traditionally, the clubs play a major role on the large BMW stand, and BMW plans to also offer a view into the restoration workshop and the BMW Group Classic vehicle hall, as well as to present the range of spare parts for BMW classics on the basis of individual examples.

Peugeot anniversary:
50 years ago, with the 504 convertible and the 504 coupé, Peugeot added two dignifiedly styled cars by Sergio Pininfarina to the 504 sedan created by Pininfarina designer Aldo Brovarone, which was built one year earlier.
At Techno-Classica Essen, Peugeot’s stand focuses on this anniversary with a 504 Coupé built by 26,128. A 504 in rally version illustrates the robustness of the French evergreen and a new 508 limousine builds the bridge to modernity.

Simon is the nephew of 1920s aviation record-breaker and Bentley Boy, Commander Glen Kidston. His father, Commander Home Kidston, was just as much of a motoring enthusiast as his Le Mans-winning older brother, owning and racing a succession of magnificent cars that included Bentleys, Bugattis and Mercedes-Benz (“long before anyone dreamed of keeping them”, laughs Simon). Simon has succeeded in returning some of them to family ownership.

(Recreation)
Ettore Bugatti was considered the sun king among car makers.
He was born into a famous family of artists in Milan (Italy) but was drawn to automotive engineering. Without formal engineering training, he used his intuition and technical genius to designed cars as an art form. He surrounded himself with talented engineers who translated his sketches into functioning cars. The first cars were built in Molsheim, in the German part of Alsace, and in the 1930s, his son Jean Bugatti made a name for himself. The model 57 became an entire series and the "Aérolithe" its most daring version, its body riveted, not screwed. This prototype then developed into the Atlantic Coupés. The Aérolithe was presented at car shows in Paris and London in 1935 but later disassembled.
Rebuilt very authentically on a 57 chassis, this Aérolithe caused a sensation at the Bugatti meet-up in 2006. This very unique car is now available for sale!
