THE CONCORSO D’ELEGANZA VILLA D’ERBA 2004 :
Een stukje Historie:
Een Concours d’Elégance, Frans voor een wedstrijd om elegantie,
stamt uit de 17e eeuwse Franse aristocratie,
die met door paarden getrokken koetsen door
de Parijse parken paradeerde in de zomer.
De koetsen werden langzamerhand paardloos en
zo werden de samenkomsten meer dan alleen paraderen
maar een competitie, oftewel concours,
tussen auto-eigenaren wie de mooiste had.
Hiervoor werd ook toen al een jury samengesteld.
Vandaag de dag is een Concours d’Elégance een wedstrijd tussen
klassieke auto’s die gejureerd worden op verschillende vlakken.
Restauratie, originaliteit, is de auto compleet of is hij in unieke
gepreserveerde staat zonder restauratie.
Het jureren wordt gedaan door kenners uit het vakgebied zoals
auto-ontwerpers, journalisten, veilingmeesters en verzamelaars.

Villa Erba is a 19th-century villa in Cernobbio, on the shores of Lake Como, Italy.
It was built by Luigi Erba, brother of the prominent businessman Carlo Erba
(founder of the first Italian pharmaceutical company), to show off his wealth.
After the death of Luigi Erba, the villa was inherited by his daughter Carla
and was used by members of Carla's family, including her son Luchino Visconti.
In 1986, it was bought by a public consortium to use as an exposition and congress center.
In 2004, the villa served as a filming location for the movie Ocean's Twelve.
In early 2005, American singer Gwen Stefani,
shot the music video for her 2005 single, Cool, on the villa's grounds.
In the same year, a leg of Anastacia's Live at Last Tour
was hosted in the villa's park.
Het Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is een van de meest prestigieuze
evenementen in Europa, of zelfs wereldwijd.
Het hotelpark van Hotel Villa d'Este is op zaterdag geopend voor genodigden.
Op zondag worden de voertuigen dan gepresenteerd in het park van Villa Erba.
Zoals altijd waren er fantastische foto's van precies zulke voertuigen.

"EYL 137"
1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Corto, Team Scuderia Ferrari.
The license plate "EYL 137" indicates this is serial number 2111027,
an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300, 1932 model "corto" (short wheelbase),
according to an auction in 2001.
Bloomberg claims it is one of three that Scuderia Ferrari
prepared for the 1932 Mille Miglia, but that this car (on the picture)
did not actually race.
It was first a Zagato spider, then a coupe, then (back to) roadster.

HISTORY :
ASTON MARTIN DB4 GT Jet I 1960
The car was revealed at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show by Gruppo Bertone and
was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro who was only 22 years old at the time.
It was based on the Aston Martin DB4 GT and was originally finished
in light green and had a grey interior.
Owners and restoration
According to its most recent auction listing (2012),
it was first in Beirut before being sent to the US.
It's there that Victor Gauntlett, Aston Martin's Chairman found the car in bad shape and
sent it back to Newport Pagnell for a complete restoration by Aston Martin Works Service
under Kingsley Riding-Felce's supervision. The car had suffered an engine fire.
The car was purchased by Hans-Peter Weidemann (CH)
during its restoration which was completed in 1988.
Its inline six-cylinder, twin-cam 3.7-liter engine produces 302 bhp (225 kW)
at 6,000 rpm thanks to three Weber carburetors,
significantly more than the standard 240 bhp (179 kW) output.
0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes 6.1 seconds before an impressive top speed of 153 mph (246 km/h).
It has Girling four-wheel disc brakes which allowed the DB4 GT Bertone Jet
to become the first car in the world to perform a 0-100 mph-0 in less than 20 seconds.
