Ticket sales for the Essen Motor Show start

CHECK for TICKETS

Performance Car Festival launches as "Limited Edition" this year

Ticket sales for the Essen Motor Show have begun: As of now, fans can order tickets for the
long-awaited Performance Car festival from November 27 to December 5
(November 26: Preview Day) at Messe Essen at www.essen-motorshow.de.
A day ticket costs 18 euros, reduced 14 euros.
Those who want to take a look at celebrities and premieres before everyone else can get a ticket
for Preview Day for 30 euros or a reduced rate of 25 euros.
Messe Essen offers special afternoon tickets for visitors with a narrow time window.
Children under the age of eight are admitted free of charge.
Payment is possible by Giropay, credit card, PayPal or Sofortüberweisung.
To avoid queues, ticket sales will take place exclusively online.

Because the effects of the pandemic are still being felt in many places, the Essen Motor Show
will be held this year as a "Limited Edition" and without the motor sports arena.
After the Corona-related break last year, the exhibitors will present their products and trade fair
premieres in eight halls. These range from sports cars and classic cars to tuning products such as
chassis and rims and trendy fashion. E-sports and electromobility have just as much a place here
as motor sports - because in Essen, everything is allowed that has four wheels and inspires.

For a safe visit: 3G rule and mask requirement

In order to enable a safe visit, the 3G rule and a mask obligation are currently in force for the Essen
Motor Show. In order to avoid long waiting times, Messe Essen recommends having the 3G proof
ready in digital form. Additional safety is provided by a successfully proven hygiene concept which,
among other things, provides for cashless payment at parking machines and in the catering facilities.
In addition, the latest ventilation systems and open doors ensure fresh air
in the exhibition halls at all times.

 Letter from Peter Maguire...

 Hello 'Motoring George',

I only found your very interesting 'site' today.

I was searching for any on-line info.on the 1993 Monte Carlo Challenge, as I participated in it.

I was the navigator/mechanic 😇and Hugh Morris (austin 😉)

😇 was the Owner/Driver of the Austin 7, car No #.2

which started from Noordwijk. If I recall correctly we were the first car off the ramp.

YES ...💪💨💨💨

We did finish the rally and came 4th out of the six finishers in the pre-war class. 🌞

I think there were 17 cars in this class, though I do not know if all started.

This pleased us no end as it was our first rally and the first serious rally

for an Austin 7 since the mid-1930's.  (Wow 👍👍👍)

1936 was the last time there was a factory entry in the Monte and the car was a non-finisher.

I actually built the car up from original 1930/31 parts,

except for the body which was a copy of

the ones fitted to the 1930 Austin 7 Sports model.

The engine was to the works racing specification, though made from standard parts,

rather than the special parts that would have been used.

The quoted speed of a maximum of 50 mph is very incorrect !! 😏 *80 MPH

In fact we could exceed 80 mph with the top engine revs being slightly over 6000/rpm.

- AHX 312 -

Hugh Morris 👳 also entered the car in the 1993 Paris-Marrakech Rally ( again a class 4th!) and

the 1994 London-Cortina Rally where he won the pre-war class, also gaining an Alpine Cup.

- AHX 312 -

After the Cortina rally I actually drove the car on my own, back to London,

as Hugh 😇 had to fly home for his son's wedding. 👨

The car was usually very reliable, though we did carry spares on the rallies and a compact tool kit.

I accompanied him on all of these rallies as he would only enter on condition I did so.

They were very hard, but great fun. 😘

Hugh 😇 was a good driver and a great companion, fond memories.

I hope that you find this of interest.

Regards, Peter Maguire.

Hello 'Motoring George',

You can find mention of my old business and the cars that I built on the web.

Yes Sir  😇 ...In very exceptional case it's OK !

A wonderful supercharged Austin 7 road rally car in London, England.

Often under 'Hermitage Engineering Austin 7 Rally Cars.

Try 'Gearheads Supercharged Austin 7 Road Rally Competition Car'

 (not actually supercharged).

His car is registered AHX312, colour dark green.

These are mainly the 1998 'Monte' and the 1998 Paris-Marrakech rally

in which I drive 'JH619', the green car with red wheels.

Hugh Morris let me borrow it for the rally as we had an invite to participate.

Best regards, Peter Maguire.

 RESULTS :

Austin 7 'JH 619' then competed in the following:-

===================================

1993 Monte Carlo Classic. (Finished 4th in Class).

1993 Paris-Marrakech. (4th in Class and 'Against all odds' award).

1994 Brighton Speed Trials (20.2 seconds).

1994 London-Cortina Classic Marathon. (Class Win and an Alpine Cup).

1995 Monte Carlo Classic (Lent to me for the event. (Class 4th and 'Against all odds' award!).

1995 Basque Classic Rally. (Best car in rally award!).

1997 Monte Carlo Classic (to Nice).

!998 Paris-Marrakech ( Class 5th and 'Against all odds' award).

2001 Winter Classic (Only time did not finish and final 'rally').

2004 Etretat-Benouville sprint hill climb (Class 1st).

Austin7 'AHX 312' I built up from the complete chassis of a 1932 car owned by Roger Gourd.

The finished car was based on knowledge gained from rallying in 'JH 619'.

It competed in many events and rallies between 1997 and 2006.

They include:-

1997 Monte Carlo Classic.

1998 Circuit of Laon.

1998 Monte Carlo Classic. (Class 4th)

1998 Paris-Marrakech (Class 6th).

1999 London-San Sebastien. (Crashed).

2001 Winter Classic (Finisher).

.......................and around another six since!

The specification for all cars was the same. All used original 1930-32 Austin 7 parts.

750cc engine. Pressure-fed 2-bearing crankshaft (to Austin pattern).

Modified valves. Special springs. High-lift camshaft.

Close-ratio 3-speed gearbox.

Rear axle ratios; various(!) 4.9; 5.25; 5.375, though usually 5.25.

Usually 4.00"x17" wheels. 19" were also used on AHX312 in 1998.

2-seat bodies, usually no windscreen or hood. (Except Barry Pound's car).

Oversize petrol tanks. S.U. electric fuel pump.

6V electrical system (except Barry Pound's car, which was 12V).

All cars could (and did) achieve 80 mph for extended periods.

The body colour was Connaught Green ('JH' and 'AHX'); Dark Blue (two cars); Black (One car).

I specified only Castrol R40 for the engines!

Best regards, Peter.
